Patients will be able able to inject themselves once a week with pre-filled pens. The drug suppresses appetite by mimicking the hormone glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), which is released after eating. It makes people using it feel full, thereby resulting in people eating less and reducing their overall calorie intake.
Did you know? Research shows that it takes about 12 weeks on average to form new habits. By sticking to this routine for three months, healthy eating and regular exercise will become habits, which are key to losing weight and keeping it off.
Any pens that haven't been used should be kept in the fridge. After being used once, you can keep the pens either in the fridge or at room temperature.
Open pens must be thrown away after 30 days even if they have any treatment left in them. Pens need to be disposed of in sharps bins – you'll be given one of these when you start using the treatment.
