  • Hypertension,
  • Dyslipidaemia (in which disturbances in fat metabolism lead to changes in the concentrations of lipids in the blood),
  • Obstructive sleep apnoea
  • Cardiovascular disease

How does this service work?

First call up or fill out our contact form and book in to speak with one of our pharmacists. Then at your consultation the pharmacist, they’ll ask you a few questions to make sure you’re eligible for the service. If you’re suitable, you’ll then pay for your medication and collect it from the pharmacy. If you are not suitable for the service, our pharmacist may recommend alternative treatments or lifestyle changes.

Our pharmacist will explain

How to use the medication and how to manage any side effects. You’ll be given your first month of medication.

Every week during the first month you’ll get a phone call from the pharmacy to check how you’re doing. For the whole time you’re using our service our team is there to support your weight loss journey.

Every month you’ll have a face-to-face consultation with our pharmacist who’ll also give you your next months’ worth of treatment. In this consultation we can check to see if you need an increase for your dose, which can be over several months to reduce side effects and build tolerance.

Patients will be able able to inject themselves once a week with pre-filled pens. The drug suppresses appetite by mimicking the hormone glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), which is released after eating. It makes people using it feel full, thereby resulting in people eating less and reducing their overall calorie intake.

Did you know? Research shows that it takes about 12 weeks on average to form new habits. By sticking to this routine for three months, healthy eating and regular exercise will become habits, which are key to losing weight and keeping it off.

Storing and throwing away your pens

Any pens that haven't been used should be kept in the fridge. After being used once, you can keep the pens either in the fridge or at room temperature.

Open pens must be thrown away after 30 days even if they have any treatment left in them. Pens need to be disposed of in sharps bins – you'll be given one of these when you start using the treatment.

Please see our Sharps Exchange service for disposal of pens.
